Thinking about Github. Git itself is pretty decentralized as a thing. But Github has become a centralized clearinghouse of this protocol.
If Github suddenly decided tomorrow "we are evil and do evil things," everyone could still fork (probably). This isn't true with things like Facebook and Twitter. If you go to another platform, they hold the thing you want to fork, your identity.
Therefore, the right to fork should be thought of as a fundamental right in decentralization and federation.

It's amazing how many days of work goes into what effectively will be a tooltop.
mfgames-culture can now do calculate elapsed time between instants, format and parse it from arbitrary specs based on culture files.
This means I can annotate my chapters with a start in "1454/7/41 MTR 1::36" with either duration "4::45" or stop "1454/7/41 MTR 5:1" and it works.
Well, once I write the period format. But the big thing is it lets me document my wiki using "in world" values and have it correct. :)
How common is it to become "paralyzed by the paradox of choice" for new GNU/Linux users and new Android users? Both I think come with pretty sane defaults but leave plenty of room open for customization and alternative choices. (Personally, I'd rather have a reasonable alternative for something like email than be stuck with something like Outlook. Is that weird?)

(Certainly now that "bird site" and "Zuck's book" are what they are, they could in theory use the lack of net neutrality to snuff out competition, including Mastodon.)
In my latest blog post I suggested that even "bird site" may not have come into existence if we did not have net neutrality. Is this a fair statement?
