congratulations, you win permission to dress up as a famous frog and go hide in a cave.

it's a Hermit Kermit Permit.

I have used the Rosetta Stone Japanese software (albeit like 15 years ago) and I consider it far worse than Duolinguo. Like, I finished the course and learned less than I did from a 2-month after school course (which taught us no kanji); I've learned probably twice than from Duolinguo in a little over a month on casual mode.

Anyone here old enough to remember The Gong Show and it's "OOPS!" slide for censoring inappropriate for broadcast visuals?

Just seems like a really lazy way to express oneself. If a thought or sentiment can be expressed with one of these tiny pictograms, I wonder if it needs to be expressed at all.

Am I really the weird one out for finding the whole emoji thing rather ho-hum and boring? From what i remember, humans moved away from hieroglyphics into expressing ideas with language, both written and spoken. It just seems to be pointless to want to go back in the other direction.

We hiked 4.25 miles today with an elevation change of 719 feet. It's lunchtime, where by "lunch" I mean "table of food larger than me".

For some reason, I find the end of "The Internet Is For Porn" is much funnier when the street term for a private part is beeped out.

"ERROR: your filesystem is really screwed up. You need to run fsck manually."

Okay, I'll put this out here. I recently came across the documentation for a credit card lawsuit where the final statement (filed as part of the suit) said the defendant owed $11,700+ related to cash advances of a total of $13,200+ at the time of charge-off. What exactly can one infer about the financial habits of such a person given that, and the fact that (s)he had been sued over two other defaulted credit card accounts at around the same time (total $38,000+ across the three)?

Apparently Flat-Earthers are meeting up. You'd think they'd meet at the edge of the world, but sadly they've settled on the next best thing and are meeting in North Carolina.

(Whew, that was long. And I thought the 500 character limit would always be enough when I started here...)

"you seem like an asshole by the way" -- actual comment from someone with an apparent fake name on Quora. Reported the comment for a clear-cut BNBR violation, reported the profile for a possibly fake name. Sorry but I am simply not in the mood to deal with horseshit today.

Some guy put a sound clip from Team America: World Police where the guy is singing a song with the lyric "Everyone has AIDS", in a Quake 3 Arena/OpenArena map. I didn't even know it was in there until this one guy i was playing against triggered it like three times in a row. And now, it is stuck in my head.
