Turns out the solution to both "I want twitter, but with a heavier ban hammer" and "Fuck you, I'm making my own twitter with blackjack and hookers" is exactly the same tech, just differently configured.

Does a migration path exist from GNU Social to Mastodon? Or would someone wanting to switch be stuck with having to wipe and start over?

(Yay! It works! I can toot blog posts now...)

Each time I opened the birdsite app I would see at least one user complaining about some broken feature or a new one that was terrible.

Each time I open the Mastodon app I see at least one user mentioning an improvement they made to the app, or thanking someone for making the app (or perhaps just their instance) better.

We are doing things right here.

Octofriends, this is a long shot, but I need some paying . I'm good at Marketing communications, editing and revision, copywriting, and all that other writerly stuff.

I'm genuinely pretty talented and I am sick of being walked on by the Vancouver job market.

Can anyone help? I have a website at Unwordly.ca

np: The Bus Boys - Cleanin' Up the Town
from the (1980s) Ghostbusters soundtrack album. The very next song after that Revolution Void tune in my play list. No, I'm not making this up.

There are people freaking out about unknown artists showing up on Spotify's playlist picks calling them "fake" lol

These people never heard of independent producers before

One night a girl had an affair
With a fellow all covered with hair.
Then she picked up his hat
And realized that
She'd been had by Smokey the Bear.

sharing this absolute banger of a tweet in appreciation of mastodon not doing this anticapitalist.party/media/Py2

The good news is, my non-lawyer self is slowly but surely learning how to use PACER. The bad news is it's kind of obvious now just how limiting the $15 waived each quarter can be as I went through $5.20 just looking up info on one case (finishing previously unfinished research, at the time I think the case was still pending and it has now been settled).

random thought - does mastodon work with screen readers? Wondering if we have anyone using it on the platform

cause all this react crap might be an issue?

Yes, sometimes I go back and read old toots when bored. Often it's to try to find context to a more recent toot at first, and then I just go falling down the rabbit hole.

Also finally resolved in my own head that mastodon isn't about avoiding politics. CWs aren't about avoiding politics.

Taking care with content is about managing risk to others so that the effort to repair a damaged world doesn't deteriorate into panic, aggression or despair.

CWs seem like a small good step towards respecting that the state of global politics affects us deeply. It's not a sideshow.

@rysiek One comment and then I'll drop out of this conversation. Talking to gov't agencies and other organizations will work better if someone posts bounties for EME exploits. After several emergency updates due to public exposure of DOS & privelege escalation exploits, it is easier to convince organizations that they don't want it.
