@starbreaker @Mainebot In a lot of cases if the community is toxic enough, the quality of the software doesn't matter. Example: Drupal and what happened to Larry Garfield. Larry went from community ambassador and speaker at DrupalCon to nothing because someone didn't like what his beliefs and/or what he did in his spare time.

@rey @Are0h I learned in my late teens/early 20s you can't (fully) trust the cops. The problem is cops have one tool, arrests (or writing a ticket which is the same thing in effect). When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

@enkiv2 @nev As a non-racist example, it took forever for some cities to legalize pinball again after a few pinball games were misused for gambling. It's amazing that most modern games still have the capability to award replays. (I say non-racist because the majority of pinball players I've seen are white males--something the community is working on changing with women's only leagues/tournaments.)

@paul If I have to log into Google to view one of their screwball "self-destructing" emails I'm going to email the sender back and say "please send me a normal email". Proprietary extensions defeat the whole purpose of email, and the entire purpose of many emails is to be a semi-permanent record. Take that away and we may as well be communicating by smoke signals.

@enkiv2 @nev Pot? They managed to get it prohibited by stereotyping it as something colored and Mexican people used. A horribly racist law if there ever was one.

@pawlowa I can agree that advertising is often clutter. But at least most of it actually says something meaningful, whereas a lot of graffiti is really just noise and often isn't even legible. Exceptions do exist, such as the "Be Someone" graffiti in Houston which has become something of a landmark.

@corbin A few places offer complimentary valet parking for certain brands of luxury vehicles. I'm not a huge fan of those, either.

@samis @acuteanniemay @sathariel Agree that sometimes the AGPL is the wrong choice, but there are some cases where it is exactly the right one. Also, the term "intellectual property" is best avoided as it makes a comparison that's at best stretched and at worst completely wrong. Copyrights and patents were never intended to be perpetual. Same for trademarks once the brand is no longer active, actually.
