DID U KNOW, BTW: almost nobody is crazy

I've worked with people with schizophrenia, delusions, hallucinations, dissociative identity disorder, man you name it. you're almost never dealing with crazy and almost always dealing with coping mechanisms for trauma ime

this is a very 2010s psychology thing to say but it sure feels true rn

people make sense even when they seem like they don't

did u know: trans people are literally not crazy

this is about general trauma but it's wild how clearly time spent trying not to be trans (basically from toddlerhood to coming out, whenever coming out happens) functions as trauma for trans people - no access to emotional congruency, feeling like your life story doesn't make sense / add up, feeling like it's impossible to connect with others on a deep level

specifically this idea that crucial things to getting to a better place wrt trauma history include declining empathy for yourself, a coherent life narrative, and learning to have a congruent affect

this workshop is so good though. so rad to hear that what you've been doing as a therapist - what carlerogers was doing as a therapist three or four generations ago! - is being confirmed by modern neurological research etc

at a day-long workshop/presentation on working with traumatized teenagers led by a woman. shoutout to every dude who interrupts her - in a room with at least a hundred people in it - to restate what the she just said as if it wasn't yet meaningful because it hadn't yet been said by a man

funny how one (admittedly almost five year long) controlling relationship almost 20 years ago leaves me scared and feeling like I'll be in trouble if I change plans at the last minute even today

guess I just sent that pilot to my person in LA for thoughts / advice / notes. aaaahh
