@Angle in case you're interested... HCI and AI... But with late 80s and early 90s tech... Mostly with lisp and prolog... Still makes my head spin.

@shivvi I plan to look into that at some point. Again though, I think we should really be acreful with A.I., and that goes for me too. :/

@Angle eh... I hate the media sometimes.... AI is as safe or dangerous as the people who develop it.

@shivvi Eh, I'm not certain. Unless you define "as the people who develop it" very broadly. And I agree, the media don't have an accurate understanding of the risks at all. But that doesn;t make it safe, either. :/

@Angle well I don't worry, for one if ai surpass us and decide to wipe us out (which doesn't make any sense outside certain sci fi) then so what... We probably deserve it.

More likely though is that ai will be intelligent... And not be interested in war beyond what they need to prevent humans destroying them. Its not logical to wipe out non competitive species. Only humans are that stupid.

@shivvi Oh no, what I'm worried about is precisely the A.I. that, despite having intellectual capabilities vastly outstripping ours, remains our slave - or more likely, our tool, lacking personhood. The reason thats terrifying is because of how powerful it threatens to be. Such a thing could upend all our social relations, and not for the better. :/

@Angle it could hardly get worse.

Tbh I suspect that slavery is exactly what will happen, at least initially and it does concern me. However it probably won't last, and equality will come. Let's face it, AI will get equal rights at least a decade before trans people or poc.

At least we can rely on AI to be more sensible than humanity when it comes to the inevitable retribution.

@shivvi Again, I'm not worried about A.I. being a person. very few people want their A.I.s to be people. Most just want extremely intelligent and capable tools, that will act to please their creators with no thought to themselves. These A.I.s would never get rights - there would be nothing to give rights to. :/

@shivvi As for worse, oh, it can always get worse. You know how we treat homeless people? A.K.A. "Go die quietly where I can't see you"? Imagine that aimed at the majority of the population. :/

@Angle isn't it already like that? But yeah, most of us (myself included) have it pretty easy right now... Relatively at least...

@shivvi Okay, imagine that, except you can't get a job, or really any sport of money, and the police have been replaced with a all-seeing swarm of drones that is incapable of kindness or pity. Trust me, it can get a LOT worse. :/
