adultery mention (not real), sexism

I mean I'd joke about barely having the energy for one family, let alone two, but men having secret side families is only possible because of the hugely disproportionate distribution of household labor and the social & economic inequality of men and women, so.

PSA for Switch owners

Allegedly related to the current joycon drift lawsuit, Nintendo Japan has started reducing the price of joycon controllers. It is hypothesized that the price drop will go global at some time soon, so keep an eye out if that's something you're interested in.

something my mum taught me with negotiations was that you can choose to let people's comments hang in the air and wait for them to fill in their own blanks rather than do it for them.

Just speaking to my GP's practice manager who ive been trying for a while again to get through to:

"Ah yes Ms Siege i do have your message here that you wanted to get a call back from me.." (from 5 days ago)

"yep"

tech, web-based services, security stuff (long, follow-up)

I mean, heck, providing single-service passwords for those services regardless of the 2FA status is a good idea.
If the user is using the same password for, say their IMAP enabled e-mail client, it means the password for other services *and* the main account are also stored in plain text in their computer.

tech, web-based services, security stuff (long, follow-up)

The CEO of Mailbox.org chimed in on the 2FA matter a few months ago by saying that Password + OTP is more insecure than a 4-digit PIN + OTP:
userforum-en.mailbox.org/topic

The argument seems to be that Mailbox.org offers other services (IMAP, SMTP, *Dav, etc) that rely on a single password for authentication, and stealing a password during a web login would mean that other services would become compromised because they can't request an OTP.

Which... yeah that's true, but then the solution isn't to downgrade the actual security of the 2FA enabled login, but to either require the user to have single-service passwords for those other services, or not let the user login with them at all (which is one option they offer, even though it still downgrades to PIN+OTP).

It feels like they really wanted to patch that 2FA hole, but in doing so they took an approach that is also compromised by being a cheap alternative.
