I've set up a website to look at ports informations. This is an alternative of openports.se or ports.su which sucks and are obsolete/outdated.
The website runs databases/ports-readmes-dancer and is available at this address http://ports.perso.pw/
I would like to thanks @OpenBSDAms for hosting this service.
It was planned to have an official ports.openbsd.org at first but it was not possible due to security reasons as this is a dynamic website.
tom scott being cool, transmisia, longish
In 2013, Tom Scott made a video about english's singular "they" that referenced nonbinary people who use it because neither "he" or "she" fit them. I just found a... blog post? A sort of blog post thing he wrote about it, which makes a minor correction about something that slipped through the editing process. Whatever. What's much more interesting to me is the rest of the post.
When the video was posted, it was uncontroversial. It gained relatively few dislikes, and he mentions that most of those were from speakers of languages with grammatical gender who felt their language had been insulted. But in around 2016, it started to gather a lot more dislikes. I'm sure those of you here on fedi can imagine why. The reference to nonbinary people went from being "FYI, these people exist" to "I'm taking a side in a political issue" which, I suppose he is, but that was never his point.
But I really like this quote that he uses to finish the post:
It seems that, over the last few years, non-binary and trans folks have reached stage three on the Williams Scale: ‘then they fight you’. Hopefully, it won't take long to reach stage four: ‘then you win’.
pet peeve about the term "nsfw"
I'd like very much if people stopped using the term "nsfw", especially in CWs. If you mean lewd, say lewd. If you mean violence, say violence. If you mean something else, say it.
Not everybody works in the same conditions. I don't like the bar of what's deemed presentable or not to be solely based on the viewpoint of what some middle-class office worker could be caught looking at.
This poll is extra long because I'm going to be away for a few days.
Virgin shaming, sexual assault
Reminder not to shame virgins, even people you dislike! There is nothing shameful about being a virgin. Critisize their bad actions and opinions, not their lack of experience.
Shaming virgins can lead to people, especially teenagers, to be pressured to do things they are not comfortable with. It can also make someone feel bad for being sexually assaulted by their partner or someone they're "supposed" to have sex with, because it can feel like you were "supposed" to enjoy if you weren't such a prude. It makes it easier for abusers to convince someone that they owe them sex, as this can make people feel like something is wrong with not wanting sex.
No one owes anyone sex, and there is nothing shameful about not wanting sex or taking a while to get comfortable with the idea. Please take care about what you say and who it might affect.
Look at all my new flan friends!!
You could have some flan friends of your own while supporting our great neighborhood artist, @pamela ! You can find lots of neat stuff on http://grabby.space or DM her to see which stickers she has left.
If not from Pamela, buy stuff from any of the amazing artists on the Fediverse! It encourages to keep doing their thing and helps them make a living and stuff!
GnuPG, Infosec (-)
This becomes extra problematic because many people use GnuPG without noticing: it is behind the core piece verifying the integrity in many package managers in Linux distros. Some developers automatically sign their commits with GnuPG as well.
And this attack is now unprecedented; it has been shown to be an issue before, but now the scope of the attack is far larger than it has ever been.
GnuPG, Infosec (-)
"SKS Keyserver Network Under Attack"
TL;DR: The SKS keyservers are designed to be append-only, and they are being abused with large amounts of signatures on some keys. GnuPG has trouble dealing with that many signatures, and the mere action of importing or refreshing the trust DB with one of these keys breaks your installation, and it becomes a mess to use and fix. The workaround in the short/medium term is to stop using SKS keyservers altogether.
MLM/Gay Man Flag Proposal
I have seen quite a few proposals floating around, as well as the new lesbian flag design... so I thought why not try my hand at making one? I love playing around with colors so why not?
5 stripes to promote solidarity with lesbians, trans and nonbinary people.
Cool color scheme: greens, blues and blue violets are very earthy colors so that can represent how gay love is natural and beautiful. Its also a harmonious color scheme, representing how accepting homosexuality brings life into harmony.
Teal to represent nonbinary and genderqueer gay men (including demiboys, proxvirs, solarians, bigender men, etc)
Green from the Achillean flag, as a reminder of gay history and for aromantic and aro-spectrum gay men.
White for trans gay men.
Violet for gender nonconforming gay men and asexual and ace-spec gay men.
Royal Blue for masculine gay men like bears, cubs, otters, etc.
