tech, virtualisation (kinda negative)
Every now and then I'm upset the concept of a type-1 hypervisor for desktops hasn't caught on.
Ten years ago when "project independence" was previewed I had high hopes the we'd be using that instead of type-2 hypervisors or dual-booting.
(Left track only audio narration)
Now, I'm told something like the "project independence" demo could be reproduced with Proxmox, including PCI pass-through, but that doesn't feel as clean as a type-1 hypervisor; and while Proxmox is somewhat friendly to manage, it's a more general solution requiring some extra configuration to turn it into a desktop virtualisation solution.
Maybe in the future we'll see this sort of thing becoming easier to deploy. That'd be nice!
