That's been my experience of most things that are subject to that comparison - driving a stick shift, ballroom dancing, and yes, riding a bike. I do form some amount of muscle memory, but my experience of it isn't like what other people describe.

Also, after you do yr backups:

automate them, so you don't have to remember to kick off the backup manually. Or else you'll remember, like, once every eight months. I speak from experience, here. If you can't automate the backups, at least set a regular reminder and write down your *whole procedure.*

And.

Test your backups. Make sure you can *actually restore* from your actual periodic backups.

So... The admin of my old home instance ragequit so I moved to one of my alts which went down so I moved to a new instance but awoo where a bunch of my friends are is still not federating with them so I guess I'm moving to my other alt which makes this my fourth instance this month.

@memnus (that seems much more straightforward than the liquid nitrogen mad scientist shenanigans I recall reading of, years ago)
