@sciss I heard this once in a satirical context so it is hard to trace it back (maybe this is just the dangerous semi-knowledge one should avoid) but the story is more complicated. Somehow Spiegel and A-Springer are owned by the same company (maybe Funke media) But it is not the way I told it right now as I found out. Maybe better forget about it^^

@nikita Well, German media landscape is certainly dominated by the big corporations, including Springer, Funke, Burda, Bertelsmann, WAZ, and probably they are all entangled, like one holds parts of the shares of the others. Yet, I think Spiegel is not part of that picture. Many formerly independent papers are gone, like good old Frankfurter Rundschau. Nowadays even "competing" Süddeutsche (centre left) and FAZ (centre right) are partly owned by the same folks.

@sciss Yes. Georg Schramm always titulates Liz Mohn and Friede Springer as mightiest women in Germany.
