following like lightning.

wait. lightning doesn't follow people.

who am i? what am i doing?

@prismatic7 Wait. Can you follow a hashtag? (Toottag?)

@schmod @prismatic7 That would be a lovely way to track down indeed.

@Samizdata @prismatic7 Hmm. Seems like this could benefit from some kind of space for private groups/communities?

Not sure if that would work with the federation model... but it might be a good alternative to the private Slack instances that keep popping up.

@schmod @prismatic7 Agreed. I have too many comm accounts as it is, thus I put off going to Slack.

@Samizdata @schmod i'm rubbish at pretty much everything but facebook, but i like the idea of this, because used to be cool.

@prismatic7 @Samizdata Well, to be fair, I never quite understood from the start. Felt mostly like shouting into a void, which would occasionally echo back spam.

@schmod @prismatic7 My biggest use was pretty much livetweeting movies while I watched them. And discussing cult movies with famous directors (like Something Wicked This Way Comes with Guillermo Del Toro).

@Samizdata @schmod which is why it was nice - I discussed soundy stuff with soundy people I admire. But then I found that *I* was shouting too much about things and getting ragey. so i departed for pastures other.

@prismatic7 @schmod Pretty much the only site that really hits me hard is that damn blue one. Most all the rest can go hang.

andrew @schmod

@Samizdata @prismatic7 Completely agree.

I'm also in a private slack that's incredibly great (especially as a diversion from , which has seemed increasingly difficult for me, post-November), but the fact that it's a closed community really bothers me.

@schmod @prismatic7 One might argue that is both the strength and weakness of private comms instances.

A safer environment, but less exposure to the chance of neat people and stuff.
