Hello from Tootle, the upcoming Mastodon app for @elementary OS from @bleakgrey
Came home to a new error from Kubuntu today. Very good instructions at least! Not sure what exactly caused it though.
In general Kubuntu has been pretty stable, but this error/crash recovery procedure would be tough for most non-developer Mac users I think
Apparently Signal is down rn. Feel like it happens maybe twice a year (at least in the US)?
I think I've been using Wire for over a year and I've never experienced a real outage (knock on wood!). I guess that makes sense given their economic models, funding, etc., but still kind of interesting. (I use Signal too, but with fewer people.)
something really heckin cool: popular posts on mastodon/the fediverse routinely get numbers like this. this is really fucking giant for a network that people have said is dying at least three or four times
I'm surprised my Federated timeline doesn't move faster, given how many users are (supposed to be?) in it. It's only maybe twice as fast as my Home tl, and I only follow ~475 users.
Do I (*gulp*) still not understand the specifics of the Federated tl and, by extension, how Masto federation works?
Temporarily removed trends from mastodon.social until I come up with a better implementation.
Only 51% of US teens use Facebook, according to Pew. That's a 20% drop since 2015, the last time the firm surveyed teens' social media habits.

Should I try to learn how to use Mutt for email? Do any of y'all swear by it (or another terminal-based email client)?

Help me federate! If you see this toot, interact with it, either my boosting or replying. A simple "Hi!" will do a lot 👋
What are y'all reading this summer (fiction or non-fiction)? My list so far:
- 'Bad Blood' by John Carreyrou (about Theranos)
- 'Habeas Data' by Cyrus Farivar
- 'Now My Heart is Full' by Laura June
- 'Tell Me How It Ends: An Essay in 40 Questions' by Valeria Luiselli
- 'Asymmetry' by Lisa Halliday
I'm also looking at this list from Vulture: http://www.vulture.com/2018/05/books-to-read-this-summer-2018.html

Thankfully, a dope feature of the upcoming @elementary@twitter.com Code release is a quick toggle between light, dark, and high contrast mode. Which I now use all the time! It's nice to see "accessibility" features like that just being… features. It makes the product better for all.
