@schestowitz It's not surprising at all, same with Iraq and Libya. The US needs control in the middle east or it would be a world threat to power, to the east and west. It's sad all the suffering, I don't condone it, but I, like most of you, am just trying to help my family survive in my own bubble.

@0x11de784a Yeah I mean it would more than quadruple there data storage costs, and the fact they are not able to make money is a driving factor. The writing is on the wall in my opinion.

I just installed Tooter, a browser extension for adding Toot to Mastodon buttons to the web github.com/ineffyble/tooter

@sophia My Mac was the biggest waste of money ever. I think for my next machine I will opt for a Debian machine from ZaReason zareason.com, or I may just build one. Not sure if I'm gonna run Fedora or Debian yet.

I think the community-buildling, "village"-centric aspect of this will turn out to be a terrifyingly effective accidental (?) social hack.

On an instance, while it's growing, there's a small enough group of people that you can safely get to know some people, and get seen, without getting lost in an ocean of millions. And following interesting people is good for *your* community, and not just yourself. It's great.

I've written 'toot', a very simple command-line utility to allow Mastodon posts to be sent from the command-line: npmjs.com/package/toot

@Rushyo The "use" part is concerning. The other parts make sense in order to offer the service, I's love a drill down on "use"

@Elizafox 7zip all day every day, on Windows anyway.

@selenized Yes it is, who cares what people think. I'm jealous the best I can hope for is the beach, someday I'd love to do that! Hope you have a nice trip!

@lmorchard Another one I could add to this is *Awww man I have to sell my spleen in order to afford a ticket. The last two bands I wanted to take my wife were $89.00+ for horrible nosebleeds. I remember back in the mid 90's seeing some of my favorite bands for 14 bucks a clip. The music industry is a horrible conglomerate swamp, thank God for indie bands and independent venues.

@theverge Yeah this car is bad ass! I'd love to take it on my commute and flash those LEDs so slow people in the left lane move :relaxed:

@michcioperz Congrats! I'm not sure if it's your first gig or not, but getting that first chance to light the world on fire is a really awesome feeling. Trust yourself, trust people you respect, don't get jaded by the game. One thing that has kept me going so far in my career is the technology, that doesn't play games, doesn't snipe or ridicule, doesn't position for advantage, it just is there making, in most cases, things better if we embrace, care and feed it. Good luck!

What would be really cool is if I could "visit" the local timeline of another mastodon instance...somehow

@0x11de784a I was like that on twitter. It was so much harder to engage in conversations. I have opinions on allot of things, the character limit and disjointed UI made it nearly impossible, at least for me, to engage with people. With Mastodon engagement is so much more rewarding.

@sungo iTunes is horrible, I still can't believe Apple heavily relies on that crappy thick client as a major part of there security apparatus. Hopefully when they settle into the donut building they can get down to work!

@soaklord @wogan and I had a similar conversation about this. The problem is no brand loyalty anymore, and companies either put no effort into their products or the people who make the product and the company great, including all of the support staff. If you want to make a difference do it with your wallet and refuse to buy products from companies who mistreat their employees!
