Listing under things I wish existed and I'm surprised that they don't: A font based on the National Forest sign typeface.

My wife is starting a business that is themed with National Parks and I thought it'd be cool to find a cool commercial use typeface for her.

@salmon_cannon Which font are we talking about here? the sans-serif "MT. HOOD" or the cursive-brushy "National Forest"?

I'm assuming the latter, but I just wanna be clear. Doing a search~

@lopsigon
Yeah the curly "National Forest" type

@salmon_cannon I found numerous very similar "brush fonts", but not the exact typeface. I don't remember if they digitized this one or not.

Okay, so I was reading through the Sign and Poster Guidelines for the Forest Service, and my initial impressions is that "National Forest" is a logotype, not a font family. Meaning an illustrator drew those letters on commission and no type/font family was developed.

If I'm correct, then your best option from here would be to find a brush font that is similar enough.

Or hope a die-hard fan made a matching font.

I'm currently browsing through a font website to see if anything jumps out...

In the meantime I stumbled across this:

The N is always wrong, or the lowercase L is or the F is or it's too slanted gagagagagagag
* becomes an illustrator just to make a single typeface *

@lopsigon
Yeah exactly! I'm considering commissioning someone, but it's not my company so I don't want to be presumptuous.
