Rail guns use electromagnetic pulses to propel an object up to high speeds. But I keep wondering if the same principle might work for propelling people movers at lower speeds. (same energy, higher mass, lower velocities)

If you could create a rail that allowed the electromagnetic pulses to pulse every so many feet or miles or whatever that acted as a pusher system until it was time to reverse the pulses to create drag, it seems you should be able to move people greater distances for less energy used.
