@rhorsman Oh my gosh is that a Scott Walker profile picture?

@rhorsman (to be honest, I like all of his stuff, so I won't judge you for any of it)

@groofay lately I've been swinging old school, the Jaques Brel adaptations and the like. Scott 3 probably gets the most rotations.

On your guy, I've been into the mystical piano stuff like Fils Des Etoiles recently, though I started out with an obsession with Parade and the other ballets waaaaay back in the 90s.

You?

@rhorsman Scott 3 might be my favorite of the "older" albums. Given my penchant for the absurd, it's probably not surprising that "Bish Bosch" is one of my favorites.

I love Fils des Etoiles. Such a damn shame that nobody records the whole thing! But I honestly love all of Satie, as long as it's done well. I've only heard about 2 records of the Gymnopedies that are any good, for instance (de Leeuw and van Veen).

@groofay I'm just a punter so not sure if it's the complete score, but Alessandro Simonetto does more than just the Fils preludes on this disc. I've been digging it a lot.

@rhorsman I think it is the complete score. I haven't heard the whole of that recording yet, but yeah, I really like his way with Satie. I hope he records the later works eventually too.

The recording I know it from is by Jeroen van Veen's recording of the complete piano music. I'm pretty sure the longer timings on the tracks are just because he takes it a lot slower. allmusic.com/album/satie-compl

@groofay Oooooo I need to check that out. I'm a big advocate of slow Satie. de Leeuw's super slow version of the Sarabandes is my favorite.

@rhorsman Reinbert de Leeuw is amazing in Satie. Have you heard the album he did with Barbara Hannigan? They do some of his songs and Socrate, and it's absolutely gorgeous.

rhorsman @rhorsman

@groofay I haven't, but I'll check it out! Socrate has always been a tough nut for me to crack, and it's about time for another go.

@rhorsman Yeah, I first heard it in the orchestral version, and that's a bit cluttered for me. This record uses the piano version, so it clears up a lot of the textures right off the bat.

Plus, the singer isn't fighting an orchestra, so she sounds less like a woolly mammoth.
