Why are there so many bots
@repressedNerd Apparently they are being created to federate the sites faster... if you have a new Mastodon site, you'd only see users from sites your users have followed. So if you follow a bunch of people automatically you get more content faster.
@bradamant That makes a lot of sense, actually. I don't mind it too much, but I think it could be annoying to others
@repressedNerd It could definitely make you feel very watched... like why are there so many bots interested in me... if you don't know why.
@bradamant One of the ones that followed me says it ignores accounts with "#noBot" in their bios
