Following my heart surgery, I was placed on insulin therapy and essentially treated as if I had diabetes because scientists have found that the trauma of surgery can impact the body's ability to regulate glucose and spikes in glucose can cause additional inflammation. This meant I came home from the hospital on Metformin.

As I've been healing, I've been setting one goal after the next as I work to get healthy. Getting off the Metformin is one of my current goals. So my Dr & I decided to have new blood work done to monitor current progress & give us benchmarks for A1C as well as cholesterol.

My Dr. wants my avg A1C to be below 6.1 before I can quit the Metformin and my total cholesterol should be below 150 with an LDL of below 80 (my total cholesterol has been over 200 as long as I can remember).
