so glad i don't work today because i definitely would have had to call off/go home sick. and i can't afford to right now because for some reason i have more hours of sick leave than i'm actually allowed to take because capitalism is really fucking stupid
@ebeth Bleh. Limited sick leave is the butts. I hate the idea of "paid time off" that makes you trade vacation/fun time for sick leave if you're having a bad time of it. People who are sick still deserve to take breaks. Being sick is not a vacation. IMO, unlimited sick leave and very generous vacation time with quarterly minimums is where it's at.
when we were redoing our policy manual a while back someone suggested combining sick/vacation time and i was so glad to be on that committee as the resident sick person because i gave it an instant "hell no." everyone else was like "oh that makes so much sense" until i outlined why it was shitty
idk i get that it's hard for people to think outside their own experiences but when you're making policy you really need to make the effort. i'm super glad I was in the room for that convo
my other big rant is about places that require doctors notes but that's a whole other series of toots
@ebeth Yeah. At least for long term employees (and, yeah, sub-rant here, too), you should hire grown ups that you can trust and treat them in a way that doesn't undermine their will to expend effort and then trust them to know if they're well enough to work. And trust/train their manager to police bad actors.
At least, while you're forced to operate within capitalism.
