In Reflections on the Commons, Elinor Ostrom wrote: "The prisoners in the famous dilemma cannot change the constraints [...] Not all users of natural resources are similarly incapable of changing their constraints. As long as individuals are viewed as prisoners, policy prescriptions will address this metaphor. I would rather address the question of how to enhance the capabilities of those involved to change the constraining rules of the game to lead to outcomes other than remorseless tragedies."

So I ditched the skeptical community entirely. It was dysfunctional. Now I'm trying to find an audience for my podcast while tribeless. You need to like reason, science, weird things, and The Young Ones. A niche audience. doubtfulnews.com/podcast/

Idea : An instance where everyone gets allotment of x (x=3?) toots per day for each month. At month's end of each the epoch ends and counts reset. You'd feel like you have lots of toots early on then later in the month you'd start rationing very carefully. Could also do this with favourites and boosts. Inspired by @bea

@notjustbill a.weirder.earth is pretty quiet, but also quite awesome when it isn't quiet, so not quite as introverted as you want.

so is there some way to see what privacy options were chosen for a toot? Even for my very own toot? I feel like I'm missing something.

@KitRedgrave seriously. A instance for latex posts. So. Much. Science.

@encarsia sounds like you need a bigger tea cup

@SteveJohnson I don't think taxes and social services aren't supposed to be a case of 'you get out what you put in'. It's there to consolidate resources from everyone who can afford it to build societal services that beenfit all by increasing he stability of society as a whole. Some people will never have the opportunity or ability to put in as much as you have. And that's OK if the money is used to build a better society.

Why There Are No New Social Networks

[repost with corrected URL]

The author doesn't seem to get that an open federated network, such as Mastodon, is fundamentally different and not subject to the same market forces as a traditional social network.
