@RaySir You might have the unions on one side but you'd have everyone else on the other side. Reducing trucking costs, increased utilization of trucks (they drive all night), etc would lead to everything shipped by trucks (ie. everything) getting cheaper.
@RaySir We'll see. Once the technology exists, someone will just start a new trucking company without unions or drivers and they will have to compete. Not saying it's good or bad, but it seems unavoidable and people and the economy need to prepare for it.

Been thinking about @mala's comments yesterday about how mastodon's diy and decentralized vibe evokes the spirit of the "first web".
On the one hand, I am feeling the nostalgia for power-to-the-people techno-utopianism.
On the other hand, we've since learned that the most likely outcome of that ideology looks less like infinite transcendent expression and more like /r/bitcoin.
Can we do better this time?

@ThomasBalou note that search only works on user names and hashtags, and it isn't fully global. So if there is an instance with your community on it that the best bet but you can also just talk and lay a hashtag trail to find them.
@SiriusArc7 one world, many languages, they shouldn't worry. The translation apps will solve it all soon.
It looks like Japanese people think they're disturbing other language speakers by filling up timeline with Japanese toots. That's not true at all
