Mastodon will probably bring a short revival for Diaspora and GNUsocial. But what I'm really looking forward to is seeing a federated alternative to YouTube/GoogleDrive/GoogleDocs.
Distributed Servers, but federated access to content with apps/webapps following a common access scheme.

@Chaos_99 wouldn't then the security issues of your content on each server become more of a problem? As long as it's all encrypted it would be fine. But mastadon admins can read everythign right now. I think that's fine for chatting like this, for docs I would be more wary.

@Chaos_99 @rateldajer Security policies need to be enforced by your local instance. Just as with mastodon, that's a feature, not a bug. I'm more comfortable with e.g. my local hackerspace' admin reading my stuff than Google or Twitter. But yes, docs with limited numbers of users can be end2end encrypted too. (toots obviously not).
