*sigh*

it appears the june security patch has given my pixel a case of the reboots. and no amount of non-destructive fiddling seems to be able to cure it.

do i wait for the july patch in the hopes that it fixes it? or flash the factory image in the hopes that it's just the patching process that's gone amok?

lordy, dropbox is spectacularly bad at serving up large files via http. trying to download the indiegogo'd movie i mentioned last night. i'm on attempt #5. and since they uniquify the url you actually download from, chrome can't resume after the download breaks/times out.

yay, he seems not to have decided i was an asshole! :)

he explained that most folks were happy with a streaming window, and that since they didn't have any way to protect downloaded copies, they were offering that first instead of just downloads.

Also, I want to clear something up about silencing an instance. When instance A silences instance B, that doesn't stop all content from instance B from appearing on instance A, and it doesn't get rid of existing follow relationships or prevent new ones. Here's what it does do:

Users on instance B may not send communication to users on instance A without those users' active consent.

That's it. Users on B aren't cut off from users on A; they just need consent to communicate. That's all.

pledged for a digital download of a movie on indiegogo, just realized i never got the download link. pinged the creator via ig, and they responded immediately, which was awesome. but they sent a link to a streaming service with no ability to download. trying to figure out a non-asshole way to say, no, i want the download i pledged for.

this stuff drives me crazy...i don't want to be a pushover, but even as minor a confrontation as this makes me super uncomfortable.

damn...not bad. already up to 70% restored. count me as a happy qnap customer so far, y'all.

have purchased shiny new 8tb drives to replace the 4tb drives in my qnap nas (I need ~3tb to store my rips). it really does seem to have been as simple as finding the "imma replace this drive" button in the web ui, then swapping out one of the drives. it's at 0.7% rebuilt now...we'll see what it looks like in the morning.

hooray for the library of congress continuing to do useful stuff.

the rat bastards at Amazon just announced they're cancelling unlimited storage plans. I *just* finished ripping my movie collection and uploading the raw rips.

anybody competent with css here?

i'm working on a webapp being shown on a touchscreen kiosk (mac mini/safari), where try to disable the pointer everywhere. our current solution is just to set "cursor: none" on the body. i swear this used to work (it's inherited code, so i might not swear at gunpoint), but currently any links on the page show the cursor if you tap on them, because the browser stylesheet for anchor tags wins? octodon.social/media/HnF6sMdqq
