@kara_dreamer @djsundog @cute_weeds The Blue Ant trilogy is a surprisingly good series showing his skill at extrapolating into the near future, and parts of it sorta percolate in my brain from time to time (Cayce Pollard’s explanation of jet lag as your soul being unable to move as fast as a plane, for instance, enters my mind every time i fly)

@catoutofbed reminds me of the problem old Geo Tracker/Suzuki Sidekicks would have; their ECUs were prone to die (from thermal cycling, i think), so you’d replace it with one from a junkyard and be golden

until there weren’t any junkyard ECUs left and people started shadetree businesses repairing the boards

@Fidgetcetera i don’t know, but same. there’s some level of “i spent a lot of time analyzing this story and it’s actually pretty well written” that makes me a fan of that and the william carlos william poem references

maybe it’s partly because it is a joke that feels like it should be way more obscure than it is? like i can say “for the love of god Montressor” and put a really vivid mental image in a small group’s head and that’s funny to me?
