if it were just google, i might get it, but it’s other browsers too (mozilla for instance) because the dumb pipes transferring data to the smart endpoints got too smart and started messing with that data in transit
my response isn’t “sucks to be you, enjoy your TLS” though, because i’ve managed widespread TLS deployments. my response is “help us improve the UX of the tools so that it’s just as easy to do this stuff securely”

but yeah, something that really rubbed me the wrong way was a take from n-gate about “if your government is modifying http in transit just overthrow your despotic government” for instance, as though that’s easier for a programmer like winer or n-gate to do than reporting ux issues with tools
they lost this fight when they didn’t adapt SMTP and spam worsened to the point residential ISPs blocked 25
