It's a few weeks old, but I've only just stumbled across it. A thoughtful piece on how sexual predators frame themselves to avoid responsibility. http://theweek.com/articles/737056/myth-male-bumbler

Joyeux noël ⛄🎁🎅
Was in the spirit of #lexember a few days ago, here's some of the fruit of my train journey:
fura, v. blow
mafura, v. breathe
chatta, v. jerk, tug, jump
machatta, v. cough
fuan, n. cloud
iwashi, n. sky
but should 'wind' (n.) be:
hafure, 'that which blows'; or
hafuru, 'that which is blown' ?
QWOP-style mountain climbing simulator in which you are a mountain goat
Shit let me fix everyones problem with everyone all at once:
Try loving people. If you can't, try loving yourself. If you can't, let people love you while you work on yourself.
Go be kind. Go be brave.
Teach the controversy

Modern Chinese society cooled down when it woke up and found the CCP in control—political reasons.
One could say Japanese society’s cooling period started during the Edo period?, when militarized society entered a centuries-long peace—it stayed cooled thru nationalist & postwar years.
In the West, society is cooling because of tech.
Three societies, three different reasons, same outcome: social cooling.
Great phrase—we needed one to describe this phenomenon.
A butterfly landed on me! 😊
meta posts about mastodon and twitter are uhmmm apparently the most universal topic to toot about.
give a man a toot and he's boosted for a day
teach a man to toot about mastodon and how it's better than twitter and he's boosted for a lifetime (or like... a couple of days or something)
Everybody sing with me Show more

Hello, I am 1 computer science student from Hamburg (Germany), and I am 21 years old.
I love a lot of things: running, paddling, coding, hiking, camping, cycling, languages, travel, nature, reading,... and all of you people <3
I hate nazis and I want that nobody feels left out. I know how being bullied feels and I hate it too.
I also speak #german, #spanish and #portuguese if you feel more comfortable with that or want to learn. Currently learning #danish.
OK good evening :>

“People of our time are losing the power of celebration. Instead of celebrating we seek to be amused or entertained. Celebration is an active state, an act of expressing reverence or appreciation. To be entertained is a passive state–it is to receive pleasure afforded by an amusing act or a spectacle…. Celebration is a confrontation, giving attention to the transcendent meaning of one’s actions.”

You know what's weird? I just made up the name aphandra. Like you'd make up a fantasy name. Then I looked it up and aphandra natalia is the name of a plant sometimes called the mastodon fern. Bam! Instant username
The idea that in a relationship one member can love the other more than the other loves them is quite strange, not because members in a relationship should love each other equally, but because this implies that the amounts people love other people somehow belong to a totally ordered set
