@pzmyers Higher education used to be a luxury that only upper income classes could afford. Those students can chose what interests them, and upper class life means that they don't need to rely on using their degree professionally after graduation. Today, higher education at the undergraduate level is more a about jobs. These students don't have the luxury if choosing what they love over what gets them a job. Middle and lower class education has never been about choice, but about income and necessity.
