@DistroJunkie @sivy Nah, both were essentially designed as new implementations of GS. They also written in Ruby and Elixir respectively, instead of PHP.

@grainloom Yeah, I really want to be able to use it for real work, but I've settled for the occasional small toy project for now. I might even try to help work on the memory issues once I know what I'm doing.

@the_all Debord gradually deemphasized a lot of the art influence when he in was in charge.

@grainloom I think the memory usage is tied into the long compile times.

@grainloom I believe Edwin has said that comprehensively fixing the unreasonablly long compile times requires a major rewrite of some core code, so who knows when that will happen 🙁

But when it comes to federation, I'm confused how much of the #ForkOff crowd is just tired of delusional FOSS fanboy dreams of defeating Twitter, and how many people have contempt for the notion of federation at all, because I don't think Garg refusing to budge on federation is at all unreasonable. If you're in the latter camp, you'd be better served with a personalized, centralized social network. Maybe there can be a fork for that.

I agree with most of what I've seen re: #ForkOff. Garg really needs to accept that this hasn't been his personal project for a while now and he has to hand over some aspects of power if he's serious about Mastodon continuing to grow as an anti-abuse-focused part of the Fediverse.

Yeezus was this latest iteration of Kanye at his peak. It just worked. People loved TLOP, but it really felt to me like he was coming apart and ye makes perfect sense as a follow up. Many have pointed out how much his pen has rusted, but what really stands out to me is how little curation he appears to do now. That skill is what made MBDTF was so well paced, and without it we're left with 23 minutes of, I dunno, aimless passion?

@celesteh It's frustrating how politics is usually only encouraged in avant-garde/improv/etc when presented in the vaguest, most toothless form. We need much more aesthetically interesting and unabashedly anti-capitalist art.

@seanl That's certainly one possible purpose for technology--and one we should strive for--but it isn't inherent to technology. That reminds me of the techno utopianism of the 90's that thought that the liberatory potential of the internet would automatically lead to liberation. (Sorry if I'm misreading you though).
