Oracle:

Hey everyone remember when we invented Java and it was secure and then we kept adding badly thought out features until it became terribly insecure

well we're doing that again only 10x faster so all good bro

also we're fixing browser security by taking it completely out of the browser

hope you enjoy

So the targeted-ads-industry is expected to lose 60% of revenue due to #GDPR. Of course this means massive loss of jobs. And people seem to be genuinely sad about this, even privacy minded people, even lots of people on mastodon. And I just don't get it. If you are working for the targeted ads industry, you're working for the wrong side. I'm not going to be sad for you. Especially in tech, where it's comparatively easy to find work, there's no excuse for going there.

Went running for the first time after the 10 miles and the Via Ferrara long weekend and oh boy do my legs still hurt...
But I need to press on as I already enrolled in a 11km trail run. No pressure, right?

If you're using bash or zsh and you don't know the ^X^E shortcut, learn it now.

First, ensure you have a valid `EDITOR` environment variable set to your favourite editor (like vim or emacs).

Second, enter some command, but don't hit enter.

Third, use Ctrl+X Ctrl+E and learn that you can use your editor to modify the command before running it in the shell.

This is pretty helpful if you're trying to edit a long command line.

Things That Turbo Pascal is Smaller Than

prog21.dadgum.com/116.html

<<Turbo Pascal 3 for MS-DOS was released in September 1986. .. The entire Turbo Pascal 3.02 executable--the compiler and IDE--was 39,731 bytes. How does that stack up in 2011 terms? Here are some things that Turbo Pascal is smaller than, as of October 30, 2011:

The minified version of jquery 1.6 (90,518 bytes).

The yahoo.com home page (219,583 bytes).

The image of the white iPhone 4S at apple.com (190,157 bytes)...>>

@mike I saw them a few years ago on certificates with a 25 year validity.
I'm not going to comment on how optimistic that validity period is...
They did make me feel old as I had hoped to retire before that deadline 😉

I dream of making a bot generated version of these some day.

I keep getting confused, a 420 is a nice small boat to me ➡️ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/420_%28d
Happy owner of a slight larger 470 ⛵

@manu @alarig @Shaft

@liw started 'testing' the new desk in standing mode three months ago and it's still like that.
I like it more, it seems that I'm working at a bar the whole time 😉
And it makes it easier to go for a walk I find

Must not buy, just not buy...
A bit of youth trauma here, I had a TI99/4a and was so jealous of the apple ii and c64 people...

@devurandom add to that the fallacy that random modifications of the plants or animals by viruses, crossbreeding or random mutations are 'natural' and thus safe?🙄
I think that the problem with GMO is not the technology but the companies doing this for shareholder profit, like so many other things that go wrong in our world currently 😑.

The Microsoft Data Science track training at academy.microsoft.com/en-us/tr is pretty nice, but when teaching SQL they forget to tell which pieces are MS-SQL specific and which also work in PostgreSQL, which is a shame.

Saw 'Google', but the version from 1927 at the Carnegie library in Reims.

It, the building and the whole city are just lovely. octodon.social/media/OCb1q6tHr octodon.social/media/9Ig9Q-XPW

Ordered a CISSP study book for the dear wife.
Dinner discussions are going to get a distinct infosec smell I guess 😁

@kensanata @pet84rik@mastodon.social @nydel Hemlock itself is 49 117 lines of code. cloc claims 35242 lines of code, 5354 blank, 8521 comments. sloccount claims 35488 lines.
openhub.net/p/emacs claims emacs has 1.6M, so hemlock is ~3% of emacs ;)

Filesystem corruption on my laptop yesterday, someone sabotaged my overnight restore from backup, so today isn't going to be very productive as it now says it still needs 6 more hours 😫
