I am totally delighted to see someone built a thing I daydreamed about building for the exact same reasons: https://lobste.rs/s/lyweie
Got stuck trying to learn to create a nix package, filed a doc bug. Fingers crossed. https://github.com/NixOS/nix/issues/2259
I was not prepared for the Gloomhaven FAQ to get into therapeutic hard truths. I'm going to take a break for self-reflection.
I got my kids to switch over from using PICO-8 to TIC-80; woo. In the end it was the support seeing more columns of code at a time that did it.
With the older one I'm able to mostly just advise and point him at tutorials. With the younger I'm doing most of coding and leaving the maps/graphics to him, but that means I get to use #fennel.
Wasn't that a great couple years when popups were trivially blocked?
Little bit of a rant about Mottainai, a card game with stunningly deep and short gameplay whose theme undermines it: https://boardgamegeek.com/article/29380906#29380906
@rocx As someone with both... Ergodox is harder. Unless you have giant hands, the two large thumb keys are usable, bottom-most small is a small hand move, and the others in the cluster are "pick up your entire hand and look down to hit it with your pointer". A thumb can't physically bend over the bottom keys.
Yesterday I helped a friend unpack Gloomhaven (RyanH's YASS on BGG) and played two scenarios. Great core loop of actions + hand management, classic dungeon crawl setting.
a few days ago i changed the hostname on an Ubuntu system to the emoji 💅. just restarted systemd-networkd to see if it will try to get a DHCP lease.
it doesn't have addresses anymore. i ended up connecting via iKVM before realizing the system is accessible via IPv6 LL at least! here's how the console looks
"Premium mediocre" is not a clever insight, it means "lower/middle class with pretensions to upper class". It's a modern take on "nouveau riche" from the perspective of the petite bourgouise.
Some days I feel like aliasing 'gerp' to 'grep' is one of the most productive things I've ever done.

A few minutes ago a colleague asked for Lobsters activity stats. I gisted the queries and answers: https://gist.github.com/pushcx/6e92c1dfb69285be958842cf27e4c891 I was floored by the last stat, 66% of users have been active in the last 30d.
@nixy That would've saved me a couple minutes of hassle, thank you for the thought. I'm writing up my notes in a blog post to share, too.
@pushcx Five attempts to contact them got 1 error and 4 bot autoreplies. Partitioning and installing grub only took 4 tries.
@pushcx OK, bootstrapped a NixOS install and starting to learn to configure it. So far still easier than contacting DigitalOcean about their billing bugs.
Nix you have 1.25 GiB of RAM, get it together.
@telent I will probably move to prgmr.com; they donate hosting to https://Lobste.rs and I'm just trying to host a teensy personal shell box.
@cwebber I've had a lot of frustrations and bugs with provisioning/deployment tools that don't model and manage state (chef, puppet, now ansible), so fingers crossed.
@cwebber ...yep, typo. Been keeping half an eye on it for a few years, this is a good excuse to jump in.
