@JordiGH I wonder if it's narcissism. Movies and video games teach you that you're incredibly important and living an exciting story. That's now how the world works and you'll be very ill-equipped to succeed if you only know "Chosen One" when life is more like the uncut version of the training montage. Your whole script for culture and success is wrong.
@JordiGH This is a half-baked idea, but I'm coming around to thinking that "leveling up" is immoral. It trains players to think time = success and gives a false sense of mastery and control when the younger people playing these games have shrinking economic potential and are ignored politically. If I were conspiracy-minded, I'd call it propaganda.
@pushcx I don't know about propaganda, heh. Like so many societal problems, I think it's more of a lazy, undirected and unintentional procedure than any concerted malice.
