Two follow bots are following me. Should I be concerned about that?

@puffyrox you shouldn't be worried. followbots are nice though, they help you connect with their/the other instances.

@puffyrox Follow bots, generally, exist to help fill the federated timeline on small/single user instances. Normally nothing to care about.

@puffyrox they are here to help, if you want them to stop, just add #nobots or something like that to your bio (someone has told another someone this early, not even sure if it's real)

@puffyrox if you don't like them, most will ignore users with #nobot in their bio

@puffyrox Nothing nefarious yet, just annoying. Stop gap to help people federate, I think. Maybe it's a game to some, who knows. There is a bot that posts when ever nasa receives a deep space transmission, which is pretty cool.

@broketech Oh that sounds interesting. If you would please share that atom.

@puffyrox the bots are currently the only way to build out the connections between all federated instances quickly. Think of synapses growing. Most of them mean no harm, but I think everyone has acknowledged that they are annoying. So I think we'll see a better solution soon!

@jan @puffyrox Who needs follow bots when they have users?

If you have 2 users like me who follow teh sht out of other instances, you're good imho. The rest is natural growth.

@mdik @puffyrox haha, thanks for being our instance's bot, then. I didn't have time yet to set one up. πŸ˜‚

@mdik @puffyrox connected to 92 other instances currently (πŸ‘‰toot.berlin/about/more) β€” da geht noch was!!

@jan I had thought that may be the underlying idea. Thank you.

@puffyrox no it's just that mastodon is not on one server so they need bots to tighten the links between servers :)

@puffyrox Being famous on mastodon is still better than not being famous I guess

@puffyrox nope. They are so you appear in the federated timeline in other instances
