I am struck not infrequently by the bafflingly unlikely fact of my career and employment. I have precisely the job I dreamed in high school of having, to an uncanny degree of specificity.
There are maybe 20? 30? people with this job in the entire country. Like—why me?
"Maybe you're good at it and you work hard," a small, optimistic part of me suggests.
Heh, I chuckle. Let's not be fanciful, now.
@joshmillard Yeah!! I imagine it's sort of a related situation.
@pts I have very similar feelings on the regular about having somehow threaded the incredibly circumstantially narrow needle of MeFi moderator-thence-manager. I don't doubt that I am good at my job but I also know very well that I'm not the only human on the planet who could do it. But it's a job that only one human on the planet is doing at a time.
