BOY TODAY WOULD BE EASIER IF MY KIDS HAD NOT WOKEN ME UP 1-2 TIMES A NIGHT BETWEEN 3 AND 5 AM FOR THE LAST SEVEN DAYS RUNNING

still marveling at this magic world where i can just tell my 5yo "go do your homework now" and then he opens his backpack and spends the next 20 minutes doing his homework

well, the upside of having the little one home all week is that we can go into *ULTIMATE POTTY STAREDOWN MODE* where I basically just sit there all day staring into his eyes while he sits on the potty and remind him to relax and open up the tunnel so all the boxcars can get out

It's a subtlety, but maybe this will save someone a few hours of debugging.

Unexpected rp2040 PIO quirk I just discovered: a PULL BLOCK command does not actually block, it _polls_. This is important because it means if there is a side-set on your state machine, it will be *continuously* set on every state machine cycle. If you have multiple state machines using the same pins, you may end up having the higher-numbered state machines stomping on another sm's pins while it's ostensibly "blocking".

the 3yo's school is closing down next week, so RIP me having any time at all for a while

Gave the 3yo a disembodied rubber baby doll arm and told him it was an "armpit baby" and that he needed to feed it and tuck it in to bed and he is taking his duties *extremely seriously*

Here is armpit baby in its crib playing with its favorite toy, apparently

[in despair, launches Norton Futilities]

i do not know with what weapons web3 will be fought, but web4 will be fought with micropower transmissions over abandoned analog spectrum

This has been a busy week and I've had almost no time for hacking, but I did squeeze in a little bit tonight. Offloading the data transmission to the PIO; color works. Now to incrementally walk back the prescaler and see how fast I can feed it video.

Pi Pico people, a question! When I initially plug in my Pico, I sometimes-- about 50% of the time-- won't see the USB device appear (and the program will hang at the point it needed to send USB over serial). However, if the BOOTSEL button is depressed at plug-in time, it ALWAYS is visible as a mass storage device. Anyone else having this problem? (Host is a linux thinkpad x1, if that's important.)

Well, an hour of careful soldering and I've got it working again. Got to run out to pick up a toddler now.

PSA: never, ever, ever cut a jumper with pin headers in half and try to solder it to a pad. Pins are crimped, not soldered, and so the wire is likely to be aluminum or something else that sucks to solder to. I lost a PCB pad this way this very morning

@twylo do you use vrchat? Some friends and I were considering giving it a whirl.

My spouse just came across a random person on the sidewalk with a folding table offering free on the spot no-brand covid tests to passerby

Either this is a weird scam or just the lemonade stand this decade deserves
