If, like me, you learned to solder at the Radio Shack School of Scarred Knuckles, please save yourself twenty years of fucking around and watch this set of training videos from the 80's:

Follow up with the rework/repair series:

You can breeze through them in an hour or so and save yourself so, so much time in the long run.

This post bought to you by me linking to an actual useful resource on twitter and realizing i hadn't done so on masto first. We regret the error

@phooky Thanks for the links. I have already learned much from the first video in "Pace Basic Soldering" series that I wish I had known long ago.

@phooky I love these for the extreme clarity and directness. The animations are so unambiguous too

@cypnk They're really so good! They definitely hail from the pre-"learning should be entertaining!" era. There's no wasted effort; it's all "here's the thing to know".

(This is not a ding on making learning entertaining, but there are limitations on how deep edutainment can get. For instance, the "Crash Course" series.)

@phooky I'm so glad you shared this. I was originally trained in "The Bigger the Blob, the Better the Job" school of soldering.
