I wondered because I had an idea for a hilarious unclaimed domain name, but I wasn't sure which domain sellers are trustworthy. I don't want my credit card number stolen.
@phantasmal_yearnest Running any kind of online community comes with certain risks and you'll have to accept that and be confident that you can take those on those responsibly should they arise.
@phantasmal_yearnest @dzuk @cocoron I would say that you may want to get in touch with @hugo for the hosting part.
They curreny are the hosting provider.
The most technical part was buying a domain and then configuring it.
It is technical, but within the realm of doable if you are able to follow a tutorial/how to, online.
Maybe Hugo can help on that part too.

@phantasmal_yearnest I got this domain off GoDaddy (just search "buy a domain" on any search engine and you'll get different providers), and hosting is done by @mastohost, who does pretty much all the technical, sysadmin-y stuff for the instance in the background.
I've been the admin of a few different websites though, and familiarised myself w/ how Mastodon + ActivityPub work. It's a good idea to make a kind of "operation plan" on how your instance would be run.
