@tiphra I've never heard of Epic Card Game, but I'll definitely look into it.
If you're interested in keeping up with MTG, there are multiple "buy it once" options. Modern, Legacy, and Commander are the most popular ones. The cards never rotate out, so your deck is always legal. Granted the buy-in can be expensive, but the security is nice.
Also, I haven't actually spent money on MTG in months, thanks to online trading. Get rid of my chaff, get in cards I actually want.

They're selling boosters but it's not really necessary. Once you play, you'll understand why. Basically you only have 1 point (like mana) to spend each turn. And your deck is built randomly from a major deck. Each turn you have to decide well what to do because you just have one point. Each card costs 1 or 0 to play. Man, you just can imagine the fun it is. The tons of possibilities in just one turn. :D
