Economy cannot exist without a society. Society is not so encumbered. Is a society without economy tenable? What would it require?
@MattRose The only example that comes to mind is fictional: Star Trek. No one in that society produces anything, and all consumption needs are met (along with many wants as well). Obviously this example is spurious, as we never see the means of production for non-military individuals.
@paronomasiac If you enjoyed that then I heartily recommend you visit The Culture! I'd start with the second book though (Player of Games) as the first one, while good, doesn't really fit with the others. In many ways they're one man's two and a half decade thought experiment in "what will humans get up to post-scarcity?"
