Ok, done for the day...night, night #octodon

So I just looked at the live instances list...it's pretty much doubled since this morning...(though most of them are closed to signups for now with only 1 user...)

It will be interesting to see what lives and what dies as things ramp up. I can see features that don't scale well dying off, instances that come and go with little to no warning and so people effectively losing their audience without any notice... (of course all these things will be solvable, it might just take time...)

So I don't know if it's an amaroq thing or an octodon thing, but be aware that your toots currently don't appear in the federated timeline by default peeps...(you have to manually change the visibility setting from unlisted to public...)

Of course the real boon of mastodon is that there are enough characters to write this toot and:

So I tried and failed, but here's an idea of someone to run with: Build a simple front facing mastodon head out of octagons... (I tried with various sized octagons for each of head, ears, trunk, eyes with subtle tonal differences for shading...got too messy though!...maybe I'll try again later in MODO instead of pixelmator...)

What I have to say is that I like this whole federated thing. Gives you a way to belong to a tribe of sorts...

...of course I'm not sure exactly what this tribe's defining attributes are quite yet!

The way I know I'm still fundamentally a child: I kind of wish octodon.social was called OctoDong because it conjures up interesting imagery in my head...

The way I know I'm still fundamentally a graphics geek: part of me wishes it was Octagon instead...(but then I start thinking of The Octagon and Anchorman!)
