The period from 1715 to 1789 was known as the Age of Enlightenment. Some say the era stared earlier, about 1620.
It was a period during which science and art flourished, the religions greatly undermined and monarchies challenged.
It appears, to me, the latter decades of the 20th and first decades of the 21st centuries will be known as the Age of Darkness, as a result of our nation's backwards lurch into feudalism, slavery to corporations and take-over of governments by oligarchies.
Brought to us by the unholy marriage of evangelicals with the republican party, who is beholding to only the big corporations and largest donors.
