I find it interesting that both "computer" and were once job titles

@jordyd I regularly find wifi hotspot T&Cs with blank spaces where the name of the business should be:
WiFi access is only for customers of ___________. ____________ is not liable....
Like they just used the default template without adding their own info.
Makes me pretty sure their router password is "admin" too

But more importantly, I want to get my calls done and get back to the shop to clean up the Adler Tippa S cursive I scored this weekend at the

I'm sr tech for a small (single digit) service company. 6 months ago a new tech was hired without my input at all. Nice enough guy, but regularly breaks stuff and doesn't RTFM to save his life. Knowing management's biases, I'm pretty sure he wasn't the most qualified person who applied either, but I can't even say "told you so"

Reading about this leak makes me wonder: (aside from why any employee had clear-text access to millions of customer records)
Even if you manage to print 100 records per page, double sided that's still 15 reams of paper (7500 pages).
You know, just casually walk out the door with 75 lbs of paper after spending 5+ hours printing it all out. No big deal

@cwebber I have a similar thought whenever I hold a micro SD card. 64 to 128+ GB of storage the size of a fingernail that you can buy at any corner drug store like it's no big deal.

Making is all about screwing up.

It's about having the confidence to screw up in increasingly creative ways.

It's the art of getting it wrong with such flair and panache that you can't help but be entertained by your own ineptitude.

It's the ability to foil so many of your own plans that you are left with no option but to stumble into a solution that works.

A solution, that when found, leaves you awestruck by what you have accomplished.

And it is in pursuit of that awe that the Maker makes.

6 months of icy coldness, 3 months of "it's sort of ok if the sun is out", and 2 1/2 months of oppressive humidity. But at least the leaves are pretty for a week.

@simba just made me remember performing "In Memorium: Dresden" once years ago... Beautiful and painful piece.

Not my performance, but watch out after 5:00. (Our conductor had all the lights in the theater cut right there, if you can believe it) youtube.com/watch?v=dp43quun2N

5 years as a copier tech and I'm still kind of disappointed that I have yet to come across anyone running around here, and constantly amazed at the horrible performance everyone seems to be fine with on their windows systems.

Even though I rarely post or interact, scrolling through the federated timeline before bed made me think about why seeing so many toots in languages I can't even guess at makes me feel good.
It's that everyone has a place to say what they want to say, how they want to say it, and there's no mechanism or algorithm trying to make me think I matter any more than anyone else does.

Typewriter ribbon worn thin, rolled and rerolled countless times, yet it still has ink enough

@rateldajer I've seen some cool stuff from there, I'll have to take a closer look soon

@Laraby I don't know, would it still be a network if no one is connected?

Is there an "antisocial network" instance of Mastodon? Where the whole point is to rarely post or interact and mostly just sit awkwardly in the corner? Because there should be

@toooldforfandom I had a similar thought/question about choosing an instance. I ended up spending half an hour reading through the descriptions, but there was no easy way to compare. it was like trying to pick an IRC server back in the day.

@Falken_Ripp It's an "identity proof" of sorts for keybase.io. As to what that is, I'm not great at explaining, but it's a crypto system that allows a form of verification (along with file sharing, chat, other fun stuff) Not 100% sure it worked right this time though.
