Usually I watch "A Capitol Fourth" on PBS as my observance of Independence Day here in the US. I don't think I can sit through an hour and a half of "rah rah America is so good!" this year though. Don't get me wrong: I know we were never perfect. We've always had room to improve. This year, it feels like we have strayed so far away from the ideals we profess on such a holiday. I know it's been a long, subversive process to get here, but it just feels so much worse now.
