Quick technical question. If net neutrality falls by the wayside, do we get to go back to lynx & modems and rebuilding a free internet from scratch?
@nivex @forteller Fantastic. I knew it was time.
@niais I'm thinking ipv6 and ipsec everything plus doing some hard work on root certificate principles
@odinsdream @niais I love me some #IPv6, but I think the biggest problem is going to be infrastructure. Riding across incumbents' lines means they can still throttle/drop your traffic if they can't inspect it. Put another way: We'll have to find a way to build open transit.
@niais might be difficult. The telecoms probably ripped out most of the old copper POTS lines we used for dialup access. Also, who makes modems these days?
@niais if we do, do we know how to do it better? (“Now there are 17 standards.”)
@clew honestly, at this point I think "better" is - local, redundant, and factionalized.
