What I liked best about the bar I was at last night were the two bathroom doors. One door had a picture of Divine in a dress, the other door had a picture of David Bowie's face as Ziggy Stardust.

There was a line of 2 women and 3 men for Divine, none for Bowie. We were making up stories as to why.

Pet Peeves, Part 2 (aka today):
- changing interface names after I got new server up-and-running, and tested it with a reboot to be sure

Is this because I ran updates and rebooted again?

Thank you, remote console. Eff you, whatever mechanism changed interface names from em[1-4] to eno[1-4].

THIS IS A SERVER! Server network configuration SHOULD NOT CHANGE after I configure, test, reboot, and test again. Not application TCP ports, and not interface names.

Pet Peeves, Part 1:
- not writing any log messages
- almost as bad: writing log messages without timestamps
- a server application that picks a different TCP port every time I restart the application, and my 30+ users all had to update their client software configuration with the new port (reboot would start at the same initial port, so I rebooted it a lot)

The last two happened to me years ago when testing network management software from Alcatel called OmniVista. (I had feedback.)

I'm on another critical project at $work. (I'm already on two utterly critical projects, which is one or two more than I'd like, but they both have a deadline of June 1.) Based on comment from $boss, I declare the theme song of this project to be "Eastbound and Down" by Jerry Reed because

The deadline is October; $boss'-boss will find out if that's Oct 1 or Oct 31. Please be Oct 31!

Please note, those studies are for hands-free; nowadays, I see far too many drivers making bad turns while holding phones to ear.

We left for school 10 minutes later than planned this morning so we could watch this bunny eat clover in our front yard. I promised not to mow that patch.

I opened my garage door and walked outside. Just as I was passing under the door, I heard a soft thump next to me.

A lizard had gotten a ride up on the garage door, lost its grip, and landed on the concrete next to me. The lizard ran away quickly, so I assume it's fine. Possibly startled, but fine.

Yay, daylight soon!

Looking like "stay awake all night" by default...

I wish I weren't still awake, because soon I will have to decide if I plan to stay awake all night, or if I try to get a few hours of sleep before my alarm goes off before sunrise. I want to pick the choice that leaves me the most alert when I have to drive, and my experience is that it must depend on factors I haven't characterized. There is no right answer?

Upon finishing any one homework assignment, my oldest son (12) will call "VICTORY HUG!"

It's a short break from drudgery.

It celebrates a small accomplishment to build larger motivation.

It's positive physical contact (useful to build child self-esteem, and counter to toxic masculinity; both laudable).

It's positive social contact.

I completed four units of required online training (counting the employee self-evaluation as one unit), now I'm off to collect some victory hugs.

Smart kid!

I have to complete an employee self-evaluation that I've put off for too long.

I am torn between using one of these two references (or both? can I pull off both??):
