Sockets are clearly *way* too low-level. Application programmers should ask services not specific protocols/addresses/etc.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a #SIP provider?
$Work needs SIP to replace a T1 that AT&T decided to disconnect so they could wake me up in the middle of the night far too often these past two weeks. There will be some trick questions; international calls are the tip of the trouble iceberg, followed by DTMF issues. Good customer support is my top priority. (I'm pretty sure any SIP is cheaper than a T1, so cost is already a win.)
Seriously, AT&T? I understand if a tech is awake, so am I ... but it's the same problem it's been for the past two weeks!!!
More clueful and less calling me every 15 minutes would be appreciated.

The corollary to "emotionally-healthy people ask for what they want" is that any expectation of mind reading is unhealthy.
I should not expect you to read my mind. I should "use my words" and "ask for what I want."
Likewise, I should not be expected to read your mind. That's a sign of danger in a relationship.
That's another reason why it's so important to express what you want.
