I have enough gear that would mount in a 19-inch rack that it may be time to consider getting one.
On the 19-inch-with-ears side, I have a patch panel, 2 switches, and 2 servers - although one server frustrated @nivex today by not booting well, and the other server should be retired ... it has a floppy drive, folks, it should be retired.
Any suggestions or useful tips out there? Maybe @rey ?
@rey @nivex I haven't decided about wall mounting. Mounting to *something* sounds secure, and secure sounds good, but most of the racks I've worked with were free-standing - and too heavy to budge. The telco 2-post racks were bolted to the floor, but I'm not thrilled about lag bolts into my slab. Finishing the wall (unfinished mechanical room, not on HVAC, in basement) with some insulation and then plywood sounds reasonable.
Clip-in yes!
@nethope @nivex honestly idk... i've only bought one, and it was for the network at the house. :< it was also a shallow wall-mount thing.
clip-in nuts: good
hinged: ehh maybe
if wall-mounting, firmly attach some plywood to the wall, then attach the rack to that
