i'm convinced this whole federation thing will be an absolute shitshow that will descend into highly insular, complex drama and anger, and at least in the abstract i'm 100% here for it
@shivvi I agree with you that they're needed, but I'm not convinced they will fix the wider problems either. This entire model seems set up to encourage the kind of reddit poisoning-and-brigading shenanigans that I'd think no one sane would want to touch with a ten foot pole. i wonder if the creator being 25 is part of this... not quite knowing what he's in for...
@naxuu I suspect you're probably right about that. Already seen one person say they were all for free speech and so were creating their own instance for unrestricted.
In my opinion, an emphasis on unrestricted free speech is almost guaranteed to result in hate speech.
I'm still calling for shared block lists for these situations. There may not be a need now, but there almost certainly will be in the future.
