I'm trying the #introduction thing again because I forgot to use hashtags when I first joined. I'm a #mefite and I live in #Charlottesville VA. I'm interested in #USpolitics. We've elections coming up next month in #Virginia.

In case you're wondering, #MeFites are members of this site:
A bunch of us joined Mastodon last weekend after the twitter boycot. Unlike most other MeFites who joined, I've never had a twitter account.
@nangar I've been looking at MetaFilter for a while. How is it? What's the community like?
@tindall It's the best-moderated I've seen on the internet. Most MeFites live in the US, most the remainder in other English-speaking countries, a smattering of people from other countries. If you really want to get a feel for the site, you should look at this subsite:
http://metatalk.metafilter.com/
MetaTalk ("MeTa") is where site announcements get posted and where site policy gets debated, Policy discussions can get really heated, but I think the existence that forum makes the site what it is.
@tindall Alright, continued again: I personally have been involved in some really heated discussions on MeTa. In a few cases, I got so angry I almost quit. But the moderators on actually care what we think and so do most other MeFites. I've seen things change for the better as result. I'm pretty much committed to the site now.
@tindall I had no idea I'd go on for so long. The site *isn't* perfect, but I like it better than any other site I've been on.
If you decide to join, MeMail me (that's MeFi's internal messenging thingy) or toot at me here. My username is also nangar on MetaFilter.
If you have more questions about the place, I'll try to answer.
@joshmillard owns the site and is the lead moderator.
@nangar Wow, that's as close to a perfect recommendation as I could ask for. Thanks for being so thorough.
