Yesterday my friend of around seventeen years died after a year-long battle with leukemia. He was one of my first internet friends, we met through AOL Journals. For years we'd talk every day, over chat apps or long, rambling emails or on expensive long-distance phone calls that lasted hours. I became friends with his mum and she stayed with me twice when she visited the UK.
The last thing he said to me was 'Ground Control to Major Tom' over whatsapp.
